What this costs — and why some of it isn't a number yet.

Two things on this page have flat prices because the work is the same every time. One doesn't, because it isn't — and we'd rather tell you that than quote sight-unseen and adjust later.

§ 2255 motions, § 2241 petitions, and compassionate release filings are not identical jobs wearing the same label. A 40-page record and a 4,000-page record are not the same project, and pricing them as if they were means either overcharging the simple case or underdoing the complicated one. We quote this work after the free review, once we know what the record actually contains — not before.

That said, you shouldn't have to guess blind. Here's the actual range our engagement pricing has run, from the current rate card:

Typical range

Federal Post-Conviction Motion Preparation

§ 2255 motions and § 2241 petitions. Recent engagements have run $1,499 paid in full, or four monthly payments of $399.

What's not on this page

Writ Large is a paralegal document-preparation service, not a law firm. Nothing here is legal advice, and no price on this page buys a guaranteed outcome — courts decide outcomes, not us. If your matter is a civil rights claim rather than a post-conviction one, see how the litigation network works instead.
